Trendqueen is trying something new this year. I am incorporating guest posts on my site. Here is the very first one by Maria Rainier who is a freelance writer and blog junkie. She is currently a resident blogger at First in Education.
Black Swan Inspired Fashion, Most Timely Fashion Ever
I’m still not sure how I feel about Black Swan—as a former sickly perfectionist and a bit of a movie snob, to me the film seemed to teeter on a tightrope above campy and high drama—but one thing is for sure: the fashion inspired by the film couldn’t have come at a better time.
Think about it: we’re already wearing ballet flats, leggings and tights, slouchy boots reminiscent of ballet (80s?) leg warmers, wintry monochrome colors, and feathers for our hair or earrings. To boot, Valentine’s Day is around the corner, so what better time of year to add a little blush to our closets? With spring on the way, it’s too warm to wear our puffer jackets but still too frigid to go without; what better time for a shrug? Needless to say, the feathery white and darkly elegant dancer looks are going nowhere anytime soon.

Valentines Day
It’s been way to long since I wrote my last post. I didn’t realize how busy my life would become after I completed my graduate program. Here is a dress I recently purchased from LuLu’s.com I just love this dress. Super-soft taupe-y beige dress has a loose, draping layer over bodice for flowy movement when you’re serving the main course! Tie the matching sash around elastic waist to show off your flirty curves! This dress retails for $44.00 and I can not wait to wear it on Valentines day. It’s simple yet classic.
Shabby Apple is definitely not shabby
With the holiday season in full swing its now time to attend holiday parties. So far I’ve attended 2 and now I have my husbands holiday work party. Tonight I’ll wear be wearing a dress from Shabby apple. The dress is called Black Oak and retails for $92.00. This is not your ordinary LBD (little black dress) it has A plethora of petal plumage which adorns the bodice of this dress. Which is what attracted me to this lovey masterpiece. The sleeves are capped and has a side zipper and a tie belt which completes this creation. The Black Oak dress from ShabbyApple.com is cotton poplin and spandex blend fabric which is easily washed and worn I love anything that actually has a bit of stretch in it. The best part of this dress is that the color is really black.
EOS lip balm
One of the products I’m in love with is eos lip balm. I’ve always used carmex and wanted to try something different and I feel this is the best lip balm ever. I wanted a product that would stay on my lips for hours and keep them soft. Most importantly a lip balm that would moisturize and eos lip balm does all of that for me without re-applying every few minuets. Eos lip balm can be purchased anywhere from Vons, Rite Aid, and Walgreens etc. I really like the packaging of the eos lip balm which is a sphere. The eos lip balm that I love this winter season is the new flavor sweet mint . I love, love, love both flavors.
Here is what the website states:
- Long-lasting moisture
- Shea butter & vitamin E
- Smoothes on clear
- New smooth sphere precisely glides on to lips
- Twist-off top
- Gluten-free
- Paraben-free
- Petrolatum-free
- Phthalate-free
eos lip balm is 95% organic, 100% natural, and paraben and petrolatum free. Packed with antioxidant-rich vitamin E, soothing shea butter and jojoba oil, eos keeps your lips moist, soft and sensationally smooth.
Since I’m gluten free this is a great gluten free lip balm for me. I hope you get a chance to try it.
Shirt Dresses
I wish Spring would hurry up and get here because I’m tired of wearing sweaters and jackets due to the cold rainy weather. I want to wear shirt dresses and sandals. Here are a few of my picks for some lovely shirt dresses. The blue and white strip shirt dress is from Forever21 and retails for $17.80 I really love the blue belt and the ruffle detail down the center of the dress. The purple shirt dress is from ASOS and retails for £14.00 (pounds) this dress is light weight and has a drawstring waist tie. The last dress which is plaid is from Alloy.com and retails for $39.99.

To color or not to color
I’ve decided to break away from wearing black and grey tights this winter. I’m starting to try out graphic tights as well as bold colors. I picked up a few pairs at H&M, the colored tights were only $5.95 I brought blue, green, and a pair of graphic tights that cost $12.95. I’ve been looking around to see how I can wear the tights without looking like I’m in kindergarten; so I paired my black and grey graphic tights with a dark grey sweater dress and a pair of slouchy boots. Since I wanted to keep my next look simple I wore a black skirt with a black v neck t-shirt and both the green or blue tights would go with the outfit and a pair of patent leather heels.

One of the boys
Menswear with a feminine touch is this years falls fashion trend. Menswear is flattering on women and can be mixed with feminine pieces for a balanced look. If you are interested in incorporating menswear into your style you should try out different types of menswear options to see which piece is right for you. Incorporate one piece of menswear at a time to avoid a cluttered outfit. When worn correctly, menswear on women is at once both structured and glamorous. For example a mans watch is an ultra chic piece such as this inexpensive one from the15dollarstore for $15.00. Another look is a fitted blazer such as the one from the Lauren Conrad line from Kohls which retails for $41.99. The earrings are Forever21. Throw on a pair of skinny jeans and riding boots and your set to go.
Cute and Sassy
I really love Reese Witherspoons swag it’s stylish and effortlessly chic. I was reading an Instyle magazine and noticed another chic outfit by Reese. It’s super basic and most of us have all of these items in our closet. All you need is short/long sleeve sweater, jeans, a dress shirt, riding boots, a pair of flats, or black pumps.

Tell the one you love, I Love You.
