The best or funnest costume I ever got to do was a 70’s costume with my husband.
I know it sounds like a good general costume that people do – but for us half the fun was going to all the thrift stores in Long Beach we could think of. There are many!
I ended up with a micro mini dress, tan boots, and a faux leather short trench style jacket with big oversized sunglasses to match.
My husband when with a Polyester Suit.
The only thing we didn’t buy at a thrift store was the big brown afro-esquw style wig my husband wore. It made him look almost exactly like his father now (since he still perms his hair).
We spent less than $20 for clothes and shoes. But had a blast meeting all the different people at the thrift stores. Why not spend moneye for a worthy cause vs. $50-75 at a Party Store?
This year, we are making the same pilgrimage – for our cowboy;/girl costumes
The credit for this cool and cheap costume actually belongs to a friend of mine, but I really liked it, so I thought I’d share. When we were young and very broke, my friend really wanted to go to a Halloween party buy she had no costume. She spend about half an hour cutting up a garbage bag and strategically places various pieces of “clean” garbage all over herself and in the bag. She went as trash. It was pretty funny and everyone liked the costume. It also was dirt cheap as a bonus.

My favorite Halloween costume ever was when I was a little girl, my mom hand-sewed my costume to make me a rosebud. I loved roses and had this tiffany lamp in my room that she took as inspiration. My body was all in green, and then she made puffy pink petals that surrounded my head. It was beautiful, original, and totally memorable to this day, I think I was around 5 or 6. Gotta give props to my momma on that one!
