Having worked in the industry for many years I can assure you that Wedding gown vendors offer alterations because it is expected, but they do not make money and often lose money on big alterations. More and more gown shops do not offer alterations at all. Online vendors can sell dresses for less because they do not have square footage taken up by a sewing room.

The result is that you get a rush job that is often not done or not done well and needs further fixing. During the busy season at Kleinfelds gowns would go into a seamstresses hands just hours before a fitting and the sewing was fast and bad, gowns were sometimes ruined. Shops that do alterations usually have a crowded room of underpaid seamstresses who are almost always immigrants, sometimes undocumented. I found this true of every shop I worked at including the famed Kleinfeld Bridal.

I am offering a new way to have your gown altered: a company that only alters wedding gowns, has a coop of self employed seamstresses who are well paid and brings the fitting to the Bride so she does not have to travel with her dress to fittings. If you need quality alterations at a fair price done by well paid fitters you can email me at: theweddingdresser@earthlink.net
